American Bible Society news release
From American Bible Society news release, February 5, 1988
"36 new languages bring world Scripture count to 1,884"
"The American Bible Society notes that the number of 'Scripture languages' increased by 36 in 1987.

"Scripture translation is not a matter of seclusion among musty volumes in a library. Most of it is done 'on the spot,' for a variety of reasons....
"Bible Society translators often work in difficult if not hostile conditions. But their sense of dedication, and their awareness of how anxiously and eagerly the results are awaited, drives them on."
