Elephant challenges

Sometimes our problems may seem as big as an elephant. But seeing things from God's standpoint puts everything in proper perspective—and brings healing.

We had just arrived at an isolated camp in the wild bush country of Kenya, where we were to stay in tents screened on the sides and set up with a canvas awning over a stone patio entrance.

Shortly after arrival, everyone else on the tour dashed off to join a walking expedition in hopes of catching sight of some of the wild animals in the late afternoon. The hikers were preceded and followed by natives with spears for protection.

I decided to stay in the tent and catch up on some quiet study of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. The sounds of nature echoed in the distance. A small mongoose scurried under the flap of the front screen and rolled around playfully in a piece of clothing that had been left dangling over the edge of my low cot. As it scampered out, I smiled. In these beautiful surroundings, it wasn't difficult to perceive something of the spiritual reality behind what I was seeing. I began rejoicing in God's care and control over the entire universe.
