As a child I often wondered about the true meaning of life

As a child I often wondered about the true meaning of life. I asked many questions, hoping to find answers, but the usual reply was that we were not supposed to know much about such things—that they were a mystery to be revealed after death. So I let the subject drop and took little interest in searching further. I also began to blame God for all that was evil in the world.

Years later when I was grown and had three small children, Christian Science came into my life. I was suffering from the aftereffects of a serious liver disease that I had contracted several years before. After conducting several tests, the doctor attending me said my liver was almost destroyed and I didn't have long to live.

I had become so weak that my mother came from another state to care for me and the children. I had been praying for understanding, as I couldn't see how God could take a mother from three small children. My mother was upset too, and she asked me to read a book a friend had given her to pass along to me. The friend told her this book could help us. The book was Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I eagerly took the book and devoured it. And I was completely healed in six weeks!
