My husband attended a Christian Science Sunday School during his high-school years. Later he felt strengthened and protected by the spiritual truths he had learned there, and these sustained him during World War II, when he was serving in the European theater of war.
We were married soon after he returned from the service. I had grown up in a warm and loving family whose members relied totally on medical help and had never known anything else. After we were married my husband tried to attend my church; but finally he admitted that it meant nothing to him, and he began to attend a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.
During the first ten years of our marriage, with all the medical help we could get, we lost three children and were heartbroken. Even though we did have one precious little girl at that time, we were told we could have no more children. The despair caused by this medical prediction, added to my sorrow over the loss of our other children, made for a very difficult time.
