Finding consistency in Christ

As we look at the world scene today, it almost seems as if the fabric of society were being torn asunder. The stories of individual lives often seem like threads unraveling as cultures and families are broken apart. Whole regions are being disrupted by strife and war. Many long for a sense of consistency and stability in their lives. Christ Jesus came to teach us how to live in unity in God's kingdom—the undivided kingdom of Truth, where divine Principle reigns.

Consistency might not be the first quality that would come to thought in regard to Jesus. Yet the Master was undeviating in his obedience to God and in his teaching that the kingdom of God is at hand. He proved the precepts he taught. And there was no gap whatsoever between his preaching and practice. Surely he was the most consistent of men.

In one instance, after the Master had healed a man of blindness and dumbness, the Pharisees began to accuse Jesus of casting out devils by Beelzebub, the prince of the devils. But "Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand." He then told them, "If I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you." See Matt. 12:22-28.
