I'd like to testify to my quick healing of the desire for drugs...

I'd like to testify to my quick healing of the desire for drugs through reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. At the time I found this book in the religious section of my local library, I had been smoking marijuana several times a day. I had tried to stop, but with no permanent success.

For several years I had been searching for a better understanding of God and for solutions to mankind's ignorance, ill health, greed, and inhumanity. This led me to explore many avenues of religious, holistic, and artistic practices. While reading Science and Health, however, I not only lost all desire for drugs, I also gained a renewed sense of hope for mankind. I came to realize that God is always with us, and that we can find practical answers to life's challenges through our spiritual relationship to God.

I then realized that I needn't live an isolated country life in order to be healthy and happy. Since my life is forever safe in God's care, I could live anywhere and still be protected and joyful. My fear of cities and cold winters left. I came to understand better that heaven is spiritual-mindedness and not some far-off celestial paradise. After years of avoiding the news and retreating from society, I began reading The Christian Science Monitor. Good relations with my family were established after years of separation that had caused them much concern. I found satisfying employment. I have a job that contributes to the betterment of mankind, whereas before I depended on food stamps and the generosity of others to sustain me.
