For many years I was the chief labor negotiator for a large group of contractors. I also had the responsibility of maintaining good working labor relations. I periodically had to deal with union business representatives who I felt were not always friendly and whose attitudes were often uncompromising. The application of the teachings of Christian Science helped me defuse these situations, though not always without a struggle.
In preparing for each day I read and pondered the Bible Lesson found in the Christian Science Quarterly. This always helped me see the world more clearly—in its true spiritual light, as God had made it. I often prayed along these lines (Poems by Mrs. Eddy, p. 13):
