Don't forget the basics
There are wonderful things to which one is introduced in Christian Science. There's the healing that comes through reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Or a visit to a Christian Science practitioner who has helped point the way to health and surer happiness. Or the warmth and willingness of a fellow church member to encourage and support one's spiritual growth. These are all very special things.
Of course these aren't all that one can take pleasure in. Having a Christian Science Reading Room to visit in one's own hometown is pretty special. Being able to study Christian Science with other like-minded students in Primary class instruction is unique. Knowing that we can learn to take care of ourselves and, most important, help others through our spiritual understanding of God and His divine law is a talent of inestimable worth. In fact, all of these things taken together constitute a priceless inheritance. It's ironic that sometimes these wonderful things are so familiar that we may even be tempted to take them for granted.
I was talking to a friend the other day, and he said to me, "You never realize how nice it is to be well until you're sick. Then, all of a sudden, freedom from suffering and being able simply to listen for God's thoughts are the most valuable things in the world."
