Watching
"Could ye not watch with me one hour?"
So spake our dear Master to his slumbering disciples.
O Father, how often in the past
I have felt like one of those drowsy-eyed ones,
So wanting to be watchful
Yet overcome by self and sleep.
But tonight, ah tonight!
I watched with You.
It was not hard.
Dear love for Your precious child bade me stay awake,
Bade me watch with You until I saw what You knew—
An immortal, joyful, peaceful child.
Is that the answer?
To love enough?
The Bible says,
"Love is the fulfilling of the law"!
To really love enough that sleepy eyes find no room!
Then that is what I'll do—
Simply love enough, the very love of Love.
