Being one's own physician
We have immediate recourse to God's healing power.
For me the study of Christian Science offers many advantages. Not the least is that through its spiritual truths we are able to heal ourselves and others of various physical troubles through prayer. Two summers ago I experienced, once again, just how potent and available is Jesus' healing method as taught by Christian Science. One evening one of my arms became very painful, as though it had been injured in some way. But there was no obvious cause for the feeling of severe strain and disability.
Despite the rather aggressive discomfort, I turned to truths of Christian Science that I had relied on so many times before. I made every effort to realize in prayer man's painless, perfect being as the child of God and to look away mentally from the persistent fear and pain. As I held my thinking to the spiritual concept of man's true being, which Christian Science teaches, the first thing that began to recede was the fear. I pondered many spiritual facts, but this one brought the most comfort and enabled me to turn the corner in this healing: God, who is infinitely loving and who causes only good, did not make sickness or afflict His beloved children with suffering; and, since He did not afflict me, nothing else could.
Divine logic told me that since God had not brought this condition into being, it actually had no real existence, no reality, no power to affect me adversely or interfere with my freedom and harmonious expression of Him. I went to sleep with a feeling of complete peace. And the next morning I could use my arm as I always do; not a trace of the pain remained. I tackled a project outdoors I had looked forward to, which required unusual physical exertion, with vigor and joy, thanking God over and over for His wonderful healing help.
