Under God's sure control
It's not market conditions or weather conditions that make a business effective. It is our expression of spiritual qualities such as love, freshness, and intelligence.
My husband and I once owned a small business in a semi-resort community. A certain proportion of our activity came from "walk-in" trade. When it rained, there were few pedestrians and those sales seemed lost forever. As a student of Christian Science, I was accustomed to looking beyond the immediate human situation to see the deeper spiritual need. I knew that the answer to my worries was not a change in the weather; it was growth in an understanding of God.
The basic premise of Christian Science healing is that there is one God, supreme and infinite, the one cause, the only creator. Since God's nature is wholly good, all the manifestations of God must also be good and harmonious. God is the source of true activity. Like produces like; so all that expresses God's intelligence and power must be Godlike. It must be good. It must be changeless, eternal. It must bless.
There can be nothing unlike God if God fills all space, which the Bible assures us He does. In the omnipresence of good there can be no evil, destructive forces. Christ Jesus branded the devil —or mortal mind, that which suggests a power opposed to God, good—as "a liar," having "no truth in him." John 8:44. The material senses may declare that there are harmful conditions which are sometimes given the impressive title of "laws." But because these senses are blind to the presence and nature of God, they cannot be counted on to tell the truth.
