This testimony is long overdue

This testimony is long overdue. Nonetheless it is certainly heartfelt. One of the most clear-cut healings I have had in Christian Science occurred when I was at a practice range hitting golf balls from a bucket of balls I had rented. I gave a mighty swing in driving one ball and it accidentally hit a nearby post, causing it to ricochet and hit the bone at the corner of one of my eyes with terrific force. I screamed out in pain and must have gone flat on the ground because the next thing I realized there was a group of people hovering over me saying things like "Let's call an ambulance! Get a doctor or something! Let's not just stand here looking at her!" These well-intentioned remarks must have brought me to my senses because I quickly sat up and said, "I'm all right."

My affirmation was based on something explained in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 397): "When an accident happens, you think or exclaim, 'I am hurt!'...

"Now reverse the process. Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why, and you will find the ensuing good effects to be in exact proportion to your disbelief in physics, and your fidelity to divine metaphysics, confidence in God as All, which the Scriptures declare Him to be." I knew that I wanted the help of a Christian Science practitioner, but I first thanked the group around me and told them I would like to be left alone for a few minutes. They honored my request. I went to the rear of the clubhouse, found a telephone, and reported the happenings to a practitioner, adding that I was fearful that the injury might affect my sight. He helped calm my fear and promised to pray for me.
