Amen

ROBERT C. CHARLTON

"Amen!" we conclude
Before we begin:
"Our God is Love.
The beginning
And the ending
Is one."

Thus
The wise give thanks
Before the deed is done.

"I knew that thou hearest me
Always," Jesus prayed.
He sang praises to God
Before the dead were raised.

He knew the outcome
Before it became
Comprehensible
To the deaf, dumb, and lame.

Why are we amazed?
In cause and effect, good—
Even God—
Is the same!
