From early childhood I experienced frequent head colds. At the age of nine I began attending a Christian Science Sunday School and, while my general health improved, the colds continued.

After I had attended the Sunday School for a few years, on a day when the problem was very bad I prayed to be shown what to do. I was willing to obey, without reservation, whatever was revealed to me. Immediately I realized that I had been free from using medication for a long time, except for one ointment, which seemed to give temporary relief from the colds. It was clear to me that I must choose between reliance upon matter or upon God.

Without hesitation the ointment was discarded, and I knew that that was the end of my relying on material means. Next morning I was quite well, much sooner than would normally have been the case.
