Responding to angels

One day, stepping out of our back door, I wrenched my ankle severely. Because of what Christian Science has taught me of God's allness, I dismissed the occurrence as error, hence unreal. However, later in the day the ankle began to swell and the pain seemed unbearable. We had planned to attend a function involving young people, and so as not to upset plans, I went. I might just as well have stayed home.

Afterward, as I was being helped to the car, a friend said to me: "You are believing you have a hard path to walk." I felt I had been smitten. And although the words stung, I saw that what had been said was actually correct. I had been believing that I had many problems. And resenting it too. I decided I would ask my friend, who is also a Christian Scientist, to pray for me. And she agreed to.

On the hour's ride home it became clear that angel thoughts were coming to me through the prayer of my friend. Silently I thanked God that He was present right then caring for me. Furthermore, I thanked Him for the fact that I had never been out of His loving presence, for I was embraced in Him through the Christ, God's manifestation. So I could not be gripped by burdens, accident, or anything else. There was truly nothing, I saw, but God and His perfect reflection, His likeness. At once the pain began to subside. By the time I arrived home, I was walking with perfect freedom and happily telephoned my friend to thank her.
