Finding safety in God's care

One snowy night I was bringing home a carload of friends via a very slippery, busy street. Approaching a red light, I slowed down, but my car began to skid, heading straight for the side of a van. I tried everything I had learned about skids, but to no avail. Right then I turned to God, knowing that He is always in control. At that moment, the car straightened out and stopped.

Although the whole episode took place very quickly, its effect on me was far-reaching. God's protecting power was truly revealed to me in this experience. Since then my study of the Bible has been enhanced by the many proofs of God's loving care presented there. Moses at the Red Sea, Daniel and the lions, and the three Hebrew men who were thrown into a fiery furnace are just three of the many examples. See Ex., chap. 14; Dan., chap. 6; Dan., chap. 3. These accounts assure us that we can turn to God in time of need and trust in His provision of good.

The Psalmist wrote of God's omnipresence: "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? ... If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me." Ps. 139:7, 9, 10. "Even there"— where I am, where you are, wherever anyone may be, God is there. By understanding His omnipresent love, we can prove that He leads, holds, and tenderly cares for us.
