Recently I was sitting in our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, listening to the inspiring readings from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The readings were on the subject of "faith." My heart was filled with gratitude for faith, as we spiritually understand it in Christian Science. I was reminded how true faith, or trust in God, had brought me healing from fear when I was a young woman.

During my early years I was often clutched by fear of one disease or another, as well as fear of death. Throughout that time the Bible was a great help to me, and this verse in Isaiah was a close companion (41:10): "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."

The fear recurred until I finally realized that I must overcome it through spiritually scientific prayer. When I earnestly set about doing that and listened for the voice of Truth, these questions came to thought: Do you really believe there is one God, who is infinite good? If so, how can you possibly be fearful? What is there to fear where all is infinite good? If you accept fear as a reality, you are saying there is something besides God, another power that is the opposite of good. Then I questioned, But where does fear come from? The answer was clear. It certainly couldn't come from God, infinite good. Since God is All, the only creator, there is no place for fear to come from. Fear has no source, no means of communicating itself to God's idea, man.
