While browsing in a local public library one day, I came across a copy of Mary Baker Eddy: The Golden Years by Jewel Spangler Smaus. That biography and others of Mrs. Eddy helped me understand something about the course of this extraordinary woman's life. Soon I read Mrs. Eddy's book Science and Health, which helped me better understand the nature of God, who is eternal Love. Reading this inspired work was not easy at first. But gradually, through my reading, I learned that God is ever present, the source of our health and happiness.

While reading Science and Health, I was healed instantaneously of an ear infection. The following week I was healed of flu. In the latter case, the illness disappeared after I had read these words (p. 368): "When we come to have more faith in the truth of being than we have in error, more faith in Spirit than in matter, more faith in living than in dying, more faith in God than in man, then no material suppositions can prevent us from healing the sick and destroying error." The joy of Christian Science healing ranks with no other joy I've experienced.

A Christian Science Reading Room librarian kindly answered my questions and gave me a copy of The Christian Science Journal, which lists Christian Science practitioners. I selected the name of a practitioner and called her. My life began anew through the knowledge of God and His Son, Christ Jesus, that I gained from my study of this Science. It was uplifting, and it answered questions that I hadn't even thought to ask.
