The tree and its fruit
Everyone would agree that it would be most difficult to pluck turnips from a pear tree! Like produces like, as a general rule; and we could reason, therefore, that evil cannot be the product of good.
God, good, is the cause and creator of all that exists. Therefore all that has true existence must be the product of God and must be good. That which is good expresses only good, and that which is evil can only bring forth evil.
Christ Jesus made this simple rule very plain in his Sermon on the Mount. Speaking of false prophets, he said: "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit." Matt. 7:16-18.
