A couple of years ago I had tremendous proof of God's infinite, tender love for His children. I saw how important it is to turn to divine Mind completely for all our guidance, and not to be content with mere human reasoning, no matter how good or logical our plans may seem.

My husband and I had always agreed that we were not interested in having more than two children. After our second was born, we felt more strongly than ever that two was the perfect number. So when our children were at the ages of one and two and a half, and I suspected that I was pregnant again, we actually viewed the situation as a tragedy. It sounds ridiculous now, but a mental list of pros and cons showed one hundred human reasons against having another baby for every one reason in favor.

I got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help through prayer. And I prayed, too, to realize that God's perfect plan was already in operation and that I need not be afraid. But when I realized that I actually was pregnant, all I could think of was how much I hated the idea of a bigger family.
