Listening to God brings healing

Communication from God is one of the most valuable gifts we have. It expresses His love and care for us. As we recognize this gift of divine Love, it will become more effective in our lives, bringing greater peace, harmony, and satisfaction in everything we do.

In the Bible there are many instances where God's words were heard and acted upon. Moses, from the moment he turned aside to witness the burning bush in the desert, continued to use ideas from God to lead the children of Israel to the Promised Land. Time and time again he saved them by obedience to God's commands—even when such obedience required Moses to act in direct opposition to human reasoning. Crossing the Red Sea, feeding the children of Israel in the wilderness, and obtaining water from the rock indicated that underlying Moses' obedience and listening ability were courage and trust of the highest order. When human reason led the hungry Israelites to cry out that it would have been better to stay in Egypt, Moses stood fast and listened only to God. And the Bible records, "Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you." Ex. 16:4.

When we are faced with a difficulty, do we listen to God, or do we simply accept the human circumstances? If we take the circumstances at face value, we may be reacting to false information. Dwelling on this falsity would, in effect, block the spiritual ideas that bring harmony. As we learn to turn and listen with trust for God's directing, however, we are given the information that answers our need.
