I feel impelled to express gratitude for the true...

I feel impelled to express gratitude for the true blessing of spiritual growth behind each physical healing we experience. As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I have found that the benefits of demonstrating my increasing understanding have been innumerable. Such was the case in the following healing.

When one is a member of a small Christian Science Society, such as I am, it is natural to take on a multitude of tasks. Early in 1983 I found I had taken on so much that I felt overburdened with church work. I accepted a false sense that at home, as well as at church, everything was dependent on me. I became frustrated by believing the suggestion that everything was out of balance, off center. Then one Wednesday afternoon I experienced an overwhelming sense of physical imbalance. I did not feel I could stand on my feet for any length of time. Also, my thinking seemed disjointed.

After spending a considerable time in prayer on my own, I still felt very fearful. So I called a Christian Science practitioner for help, though even dialing a phone was difficult. As we reasoned together, it became apparent that the out-of-balance, alarming, physical sensations were a result of reliance on a personal sense of self. Though I was able to fulfill my commitment as substitute First Reader at church that evening, more clarifying work needed to be done in my thinking.
