Spiritual compassion heals!

Compassion takes on new meaning in the light of Christian Science. In its purest sense, compassion is characterized by a willingness to let God do the healing work—and an uncompromising assurance that He does. But we don't stand idle in the meantime: our part is to actively witness His healing love.

The most effectual human means of bearing witness to God's omnipresence and omnipotence is prayer. Prayer isn't just putting thoughts and desires into words. It is reaching out to God with the entire heart and soul and recognizing His supreme, omniscient control. Our day-to-day lives can actually be individual prayer put into practice.

To be really compassionate is to feel God's love and to go a step further by expressing this unselfed love in kindness, tenderness, understanding, and unselfishness. This practical application of compassion prepares us to actively witness Love's healing presence. By loving our neighbor as ourselves we are actually loving the true identity of each of us—our identity as the image and likeness of God. And by cherishing in thought this right concept of man we find harmony becoming more predominant in our lives.
