How important is faith?
Have you ever thought of faith condescendingly—as something nice to have but not to be compared with understanding? Without even realizing it, I held this opinion until an experience opened my eyes to the marvelous power of total faith in God.
Study of the four Gospels gives convincing proof that faith is a vital ingredient in healing. In the case of the centurion who asked Christ Jesus to heal his servant, the centurion had such faith in the healing authority represented by the Master that he asked him merely to speak the word. Jesus' reply was "I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel." Matt. 8:10.
The centurion showed another aspect of faith: humility. He felt he was not worthy that Jesus should come to his house. Recognizing the authority Jesus had over sickness and sin, he humbly trusted this. And he was not disappointed, for the servant was healed in that hour.
