A ride on the "lemon-peeler"
You might be thinking, What's a "lemon-peeler"? That's what Chris's mom asked when he came home bubbling over about one. So he described it:
"It's a bicycle that Bobby fixed up with one small wheel on the front and a bigger wheel on the back; lights that turn on and off; gears you can shift; shock absorbers and hand brakes. It's orange, silver, and gold, with chrome spokes, and it's real easy to 'pop a wheelie' on."
Chris wanted to ride it more than anything else, and one evening he did. He came riding up to the front porch on the lemon-peeler. Chris was going pretty carefully, since the bike didn't have back brakes like his own bike, and the shock absorbers caused it to bounce a bit. He looked over at Mom with a big smile on his face and said, "How am I doing, Mom?"
