As a young wife I was introduced to Christian Science when I saw my husband frequently reading a little book, often late into the night. One day, as I was dusting, I picked up this book and saw that it was Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I read portions of the Preface and the first chapter "Prayer," and thought to myself, "This is what I have always believed." But I laid the book down and never picked it up again until after our first child was born.

At that time my mother had come west to be with the baby and me, and when we were able, we drove her back east. However, because of some unforeseen expenses, we did not have the funds to return to our home in the West. It then became necessary for my husband to find employment where we were.

Four adults and the baby were confined in a tiny four-room apartment during this period. Relationships became extremely tense and at times were unbearable. It was then that I remembered the little book. When my husband discovered me reading it he seemed pleased. Soon after, he took me to visit a Christian Science practitioner, who explained the fundamentals of this religion and showed me how to study the weekly Bible Lessons outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. At that time all I wanted was to get back home! However, the seed sown then has produced much fruit over the years, and I will always be grateful to my husband for taking me to the practitioner, who guided me into the channels of Christian Science study and practice.
