Face to face with infinite Love
The words of the Bible are so familiar: "God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." I John 4:16. But are they so familiar we don't really hear what they're saying?
Many people believe God is loving, that this is one of His qualities, and therefore human beings should be loving. When they are, they feel closer to God.
There's no question this way of thinking has been helpful to people through the centuries. But when we stop to look more carefully at it, we can see it probably doesn't convey the radical vision of early Christianity. It doesn't seem to include anything new and different enough to have brought about healing of the sick and raising of the dead—the healing works so natural to Jesus and his early followers.
