Expressing our true individuality
"Be yourself!" is advice that's only as good as the concept we have of ourselves. But in proportion as we understand that our true individuality is the ideal, spiritual man, created in God's image, being our genuine self becomes the best and ultimately the only possible course of action at all times.
What, exactly, is this true individuality that we are God-created to express? From some dictionary definitions, one might suppose that individuality has to do with differences that divide us. Yet the root of the word "individual" means "indivisible."
Christian Science explains that man's individuality is the complete expression of God's nature. Man's true individuality or character is infinite, reflecting God. That which is complete and infinite cannot be described in finite terms of shortcoming and difference. It must be defined in terms of completeness and infinitude.
