Although I was raised in Christian Science, I did not begin...

Although I was raised in Christian Science, I did not begin studying it until many years later when my children were teenagers. At that point I did not feel much joy or purpose in my life, and there occurred a prolonged period of unemployment for my husband, which brought many problems of lack and inharmony. What a lovely time to "find" Christian Science, and hope.

Over the next few years I worked closely with a Christian Science practitioner. We spoke many times, and he always had just the right spiritual truths to share that led me to learn more about God. One of the first things I learned was not to let anything take away my joy. No matter how extreme the lack or inharmony seemed at times, I found that it had no effect on my joy, which I knew was from God.

During those years I also learned how "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies" (Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy, p. 307). These angel thoughts or spiritual ideas coming to us are a form of "God with us," revealing to us exactly what we need to know. I was led to shop for my family wisely and thus to buy everything I needed with the limited money I had. I became more inventive. At times it was necessary to create dinner from "what hast thou in the house?" (II Kings 4:2.) My son wrote about one of these meals in a paper for school entitled "My favorite dish." I am moved by God's loving and complete provision.
