It is with a heart full of gratitude to God that I share this testimony. Christian Science came into my life almost half a century ago. My mother had undergone major surgery for a severe bowel difficulty and had returned home very weak and thin. Special diets were prescribed to alleviate her condition, but she did not regain her strength. This made her very sad, as she had always been quite active in caring for her family.

She began to look for other means of help. My father took her far and wide in her search for a cure. She even consulted with several herbalists, including an African who lived out in the bush, but to no avail. At that time we were living on a small farm that was under vegetable cultivation. One day a neighboring farmer's son who visited us was told by my mother that she was earnestly seeking and praying for some form of healing, as she had not found the answer in medicine. He mentioned that his mother was a Christian Scientist, and that she might be able to help. He said he would ask her to stop by and see us.

I will never forget that dear woman who came to us on a donkey-drawn cart. She spoke to my mother of God as Love, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases" (Ps. 103:3). She came to visit many times and one day brought a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Mother drank in the truths of that book and knew from the start that she had found what she had been searching and praying for. She began to regain her strength; within a short time she was healed and doing the things she enjoyed.
