In August 1981 my husband removed some four-by-four posts from the backyard but neglected to fill the holes in with dirt. On the way to feed the farm animals, I caught my foot in one of the holes and fell. To all appearances, my leg was seriously injured. Yet even as I sat and looked down at the leg, it suddenly became very clear to me that God is All-in-all, and that, in reality, there are no accidents. We read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 424): "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony.
"Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection."
I also realized that in my true, spiritual nature there is no matter to hurt or be healed. The pain gradually left. I finished my chores, then returned to the house and began an earnest study of Science and Health. I did not look again at the evidence of injury. The leg returned to normal in a few days, and I have used it ever since without any difficulty.
