Spiritual independence . . .

. . . there is nothing quite like it. To feel—through enlightened dependence on God—a sense of spiritual freedom and God-given control over one's body, one's business, and one's human relationships is glorious. And Christian Science makes this control possible for anyone who is willing to assiduously study and practice what it teaches about God and man. Such freedom makes all the difference between just existing and experiencing life as the joyous, spiritual adventure it can be.

The unparalleled Exemplar of spiritual independence was and is Christ Jesus. His amazing dominion in any circumstance has been a continual source of wonder to mankind. Yet for centuries the world never really had access to a scientific exposition of the Way-shower's miracles.

Mary Baker Eddy's discovery and founding of Christian Science provides such access. In the textbook of scientific Christianity, Science and Health, she writes: "The Christ was the Spirit which Jesus implied in his own statements: 'I am the way, the truth, and the life;' 'I and my Father are one.' This Christ, or divinity of the man Jesus, was his divine nature, the godliness which animated him. Divine Truth, Life, and Love gave Jesus authority over sin, sickness, and death. His mission was to reveal the Science of celestial being, to prove what God is and what He does for man." Science and Health, p. 26.
