My family has always been interested in Christian Science

My family has always been interested in Christian Science. As soon as I was old enough to leave the nursery at our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, my parents enrolled me in the Sunday School there. I attended Sunday School until the age of twenty and had many healings of various illnesses.

While I was going through high school and during two years of college, I participated in athletics as a swimmer. Each workout and every swim meet provided me with the opportunity to prove what I was learning in Sunday School about God and myself as His image and likeness, man. I spent many hours a week in prayer, acknowledging the unlimited strength and endurance that man naturally derives from God. I also endeavored to understand that time and its limitations do not exist in God's kingdom.

As a swimmer I swam in the distance events. One statement that I worked with more than any other is from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 254): "Individuals are consistent who, watching and praying, can 'run, and not be weary; . . . walk, and not faint,' who gain good rapidly and hold their position, or attain slowly and yield not to discouragement." As a distance swimmer I had to express consistency and limitless energy. I watched and prayed regularly to see that man does express these qualities, and that because of this, man is unlimited.
