How can I put into words what Christian Science means to me?...

How can I put into words what Christian Science means to me? In 1952 a co-worker said, "You need Christian Science!" Soon I was making weekly visits during my lunch hour to a Christian Science practitioner, who patiently guided my steps in this, to me, new way of thinking and living.

My first physical healing was of a boil, a condition previously treated through surgery. This time I told my family that a Christian Science practitioner was going to help me. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 365): "If the Scientist reaches his patient through divine Love, the healing work will be accomplished at one visit, and the disease will vanish into its native nothingness like dew before the morning sunshine." With the practitioner's prayer, I felt the presence of divine Love. And upon removing the bandage the next morning, I found only a tiny spot where the boil had been. It was a beautiful instance of mental surgery.

Social drinking and smoking stopped soon after I began reading Science and Health. Also, I had been having medical treatment for a pyloric ulcer, a condition for which my father had finally had major surgery. But the very day I began to read Science and Health there were physical changes for the better. With no further thought I discontinued the medicine I was taking and never thought of having another checkup. The healing of the ulcer has proved to be permanent.
