Healing through Love, the universal solvent

"The universal solvent of Love." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 242. What a thought! The phrase appears only once in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. Yet it carries immense power, no doubt because it captures so profoundly the very essence of the Christian Science message. When we really consider the meaning, it's like taking off blinders—we gain a whole panorama of spiritual insight and understanding.

Omnipotent Love meets every human need. As manifested in the saving and healing Christ-power, Love answers the truehearted human cry for help. The loving Christ-power, illustrated so fully in Jesus' mission, leavens human thinking and purifies it, dissolving its errors and wakening us to the present reality of supreme good.

Christ, Truth, dissipates not only pain, suffering, disease, but also the underlying evils of mortal sense that produce physical discords—fear and ignorance, selfishness and sin, opaque materialism. As our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes, "In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant of error,—self-will, self-justification, and self-love,— which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death." Ibid., p. 242.
