An experience I had about three years ago shows how, through prayer and expressing God's love, we are divinely protected. I had retired from work, but each month I helped close the books for a small company across town. In order to get there, I had to take the bus and then walk a half block past a large building where two German shepherd dogs were housed. I had been told they were vicious, but had not given this much thought for I love dogs.
One morning in November as I went around the little shelter at the bus stop, one of the dogs lunged at me. As I raised my arm to protect my face, I felt his teeth go through the coat sleeve. But I was not frightened. Instead I just stood still and talked to the dog gently and lovingly, as I might have spoken to a child. I told him I loved dogs and was not afraid of him; that I knew he did not want to hurt me and I didn't want to see him get hurt. I spoke in this manner for five or ten minutes and then asked the dog to lie down at the door and wait for his master. Shortly he dropped to the ground at my feet. But when I started to move, he again showed his teeth. I repeated my request that he lie down and wait for his master. At this he turned around, walked over to the door, and lay down with his head on his paws. I walked to the office. Later, when I removed my coat, there was not a mark on my arm.
I was so happy to see how quickly anger can change to gentleness as a result of prayer and love. This experience proved to me that every spiritual idea is protected by divine Love.
