Do you pick apples from a plum tree?
Suppose I came to your house, or to your school, and put an apple on the table and said, "Look what a nice apple I got from my plum tree this morning." And then suppose I put a plum down and said, "Look what a fine plum I picked from my pear tree." What would you think?
You would probably say to yourself, "What a funny man!" Or, if you like to be polite, you would perhaps say, "You have made a mistake, sir. An apple doesn't come from a plum tree. It comes from an apple tree, and a plum comes from a plum tree."
Of course you would be right. What I said was nonsense. ... Yet lots of people believe something just as silly when they say that God, who is Love and good, produces bad and evil. How could He? God, divine Love, can produce only that which is like Himself, lovely.
