At a time when I was teaching a Christian Science Sunday School...

At a time when I was teaching a Christian Science Sunday School class of very young children, a growth appeared on my face. Now, early in the study of Christian Science one learns that watching or examining illness or error of any kind does nothing in the direction of healing it; however this condition was so close to my eye, it was impossible not to see it. One Sunday morning I noticed that it had increased in size considerably, and the question of whether to teach Sunday School that morning had to be dealt with. As I prayed, an angel thought came reminding me of what a wonderful opportunity this could be to have the children share in treating the problem in Christian Science. So I was at my post as usual. Just as one might expect from inquisitive children, the questioning began. This, of course, was the expected opportunity. Not only did I answer questions but the children began questioning and answering each other with enthusiasm. This went on until it was clear they understood the nothingness of the growth as matter, and recognized the allness of God, Spirit. The usual Sunday School exercises were then resumed and concluded. When Sunday School was dismissed that day, I left with a deep sense of humility. That evening the growth drained and fell away, leaving not even the slightest discoloration.

Well, wasn't the next Sunday a happy occasion! The children rejoiced with me in the healing they witnessed and really had had a part in. One of the boys, who was a little further along in his understanding of Christian Science, shook his head at the others, as if to say, "I told you so."

More recently, while on my way to market during the rainy season, I fell on a slippery sidewalk and broke my arm in two places. Under the circumstances I felt it was best to have the bone set. At the hospital a slight examination was given and an orthopedic surgeon called in. Then a more thorough examination was given, after which I was informed there were two routes I could go: one was surgery, the other was for the doctor to set the bone without surgery. I chose the latter, and a cast was applied.
