The teachings of the Bible in the light of Christian Science have blessed every area of my life. As a child, I underwent many hospital visits and several surgical operations before my family was introduced to this Science. Since that time there have been a number of physical healings.

The first made an indelible impression on me. One day I was watching my mother preserve beets. As she removed the glass jars from the oven, one exploded, and she received the full impact of the boiling liquid on her face, throat, and chest. She cried out to me to bring the "textbook" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy). I opened it quickly, reading aloud the first words that met my eyes (p. 243): "The divine Love, which made harmless the poisonous viper, which delivered men from the boiling oil, from the fiery furnace, from the jaws of the lion, can heal the sick in every age and triumph over sin and death." The pain and inflammation disappeared in minutes, and she was fully healed.

In September of 1979 I began to have severe and continuous pain in one part of my body. The name of a much publicized disease came persistently to thought. I contacted a Christian Science practitioner, whose prayers supported my understanding of perfect man as the reflection of perfect God. I felt such gratitude and support during this time that I elected not to tell my family of the problem. This allowed them freedom from any sense of fear for me.
