Robby's unplanned trip
For the last few days of summer vacation Peter was visiting his grandparents in the country. Their home was a small red cottage with lots of maple trees around that were good for climbing. Peter loved to go there and play with Robby, a handsome green and blue parakeet that lived with Grandma and Grandpa. Robby had the freedom of the house and only went into his cage to eat or sleep.
He chased anything that moved, especially the vacuum cleaner. He liked to sit on that while Grandma whirred it around the carpet. Chattering endlessly was another of his accomplishments. His most-used and loudest expression was, "Come-on-Robby, come-on!"
One warm evening Peter asked Grandma if they could eat on the patio. Now, Robby's favorite place to perch usually was on the back of Grandpa's collar. But this time he chose Peter's collar.
