Meeting the test spiritually
Progress in the human scene is often measured by testing. Schools test students, businesses and consumer groups test products, pilots try out new aircraft.
Spiritual progress demands improved character and better health. And when a lesson pertaining to some facet of God's allness has been thoroughly learned and demonstrated in a practical way, it is unnecessary, in fact impossible, to repeat the lesson. We have gained more spirituality.
Testing in the sense of difficulties to be overcome is not God's punishment for wrongdoing. Christian Science lifts the burden of the theological misconception that God sends evil. But this Science points out the value of trials in strengthening our individual spiritual understanding. Trials help us emerge from ignorance of God and His creation, and they teach that we are responsible for our lives. How often when we might choose not to grow spiritually, we are pressed to it by a tough challenge!
