One Sunday morning, while serving as First Reader in my branch church, I was stricken with extreme nausea. This occurred during the reading of the Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly. Unconsciousness threatened, but during those rather frightening moments I was aware of a tremendous sense of love and support from the Second Reader. This enabled me to continue, and as I read this statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, my voice grew stronger (pp. 390-391): "Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit." The nausea ceased; I was entirely well, and grateful that the service had not been interrupted. That evening I conducted a second service in complete freedom.

On another occasion my wife and I traveled one hundred and fifty miles by car to attend an important meeting. As we do before every trip, we prepared by acknowledging the supremacy of divine law, which protects and sustains each one of God's children. En route, while I was driving in the passing lane of the motorway, a heavy lorry just ahead turned into my lane without warning. At the speed we were moving, it seemed impossible to avoid a collision. But in an instant of prayer I was guided to perform a maneuver I had never done before. The car spun around in a complete circle and wound up facing the direction of our destination. A collision had been averted, and we were able to proceed. There was no feeling of shock, just joyful praise of God for His protective presence.

Since my first testimony was published in the Sentinel some thirty years ago, our family has had many healings through prayer alone of both mental and physical distress. I'm grateful to God for these, and for every opportunity I've had to serve the Cause of Christian Science. How much we owe our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for writing Science and Health and for establishing her healing Church.
