Two summers ago, shortly after beginning an in-depth study of Christian Science, I got rid of something that had been with me for sixteen hours or more every day for twenty-one years; something I had come to rely on completely, and without which I had felt lost and blind—my eyeglasses.
The problem was nearsightedness. Although this meant that I had difficulty seeing things at a distance, eventually this condition affected all facets of daily life—including driving and watching television. It reached the point where I often found myself with my nose on the paper while trying to read.
For a number of years I had floated around the periphery of Christian Science. But it was only six months before this specific study that I realized Science corresponded exactly to what I thought the truth to be; and so I took the plunge into the waters of its teachings. During these six months I thought of getting rid of my glasses a few times, but this notion never lodged long enough to really take root.
