Shortly after my marriage I became ill with a kidney and bladder infection, painful enlargements of the throat glands, and an irregular heartbeat. Twice a week I was catheterized for the infection, only to learn after a year and a half of this treatment that the infection was worsening. When this started to occur, the doctor gave me the verdict that I would eventually be confined to a wheelchair.

Around that time it became necessary for my husband to go on a business trip. Because I was on a special diet and was required to rest one hour before and after meals, my husband asked a friend of his to stay with me. She was a Christian Scientist, and I attended my first Wednesday testimony meeting in a branch church with her. It was a large city church, and every minute of the time allotted for testimonies was filled.

By Sunday my husband was home. Since he did not want to go to church, I asked him if he minded if I went to the Christian Science church. He thought it was a good idea. Well, that service changed my whole way of life! I came home and threw out all the bottles of medicine, went off the diet, and decided never to go back to the doctor. I have always been most grateful for taking this unconditional stand. Many times since then, in the face of physical distress, I've thought of that radical departure from material methods. Fear has been allayed, and I've had lovely instantaneous healings.
