Learning more of our Leader

Mary Baker Eddy. A woman who loved the Bible, who listened closely to God and obeyed Him.

Whether an individual is a deep admirer and follower of Mrs. Eddy's teachings or a skeptic who challenges every point she makes in metaphysics, still, any honest observer will have to admit that here is one of the most remarkable women in history. Founder of a religion that has grown worldwide; reestablisher of primitive Christian healing; teacher; founder of The Christian Science Monitor; author of one of the most studied religious textbooks.

It is understandable why those whose lives have been transformed, who have been healed of disease or freed from a lifetime of sin by reading Science and Health, have no doubt that Mrs. Eddy wrote out of divine revelation. They see her, in fact, as inseparable from this revelation. They recognize her as revelator to this age, and accept her continuing leadership. Students of Christian Science have a growing appreciation of her in this light as a result of their consistent and discerning study of her writings. She herself explained, "Those who look for me in person, or elsewhere than in my writings, lose me instead of find me." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 120.
