At one time, because of a spinal injury, I had to resign my teaching position because I was able to be up only two hours at a stretch. I had consulted many doctors, was under various kinds of medical treatment, and wore a brace. I also read literature of different religions, diligently searched the Scriptures, and prayed for a healing. On my desk I kept a copy of this statement of Christ Jesus' (Matt. 7:7): "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."

Then, one day, a guest in my house, seeing my great need, offered me the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I accepted. As I began to read this book, I prayed to have an open mind. (I was no longer taking medicine, but I was having treatment from chiropractors.) While I read, it was as if I were bathed in light. This sense was with me for weeks! I felt love for everyone and felt that everyone loved me. In a week's time, I took off the corset brace. Although initially there was a struggle, I knew I could trust God completely for healing. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 167 of Science and Health, "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."

In two and a half months I was doing my own housework, singing God's praises. Christian Science had brought me from darkness into light, after almost five years of semi-invalidism. I had been restored to health just by reading the textbook. I knew I'd found what I had wanted all my life—the truth.
