The Bible: her only textbook

"The search was sweet, calm, and buoyant with hope, not selfish nor depressing." —Mary Baker Eddy

The roots of Christianity are to be found in the Holy Scriptures, which reveal God's nature and character through the experiences of a deeply religious people. Redemption, regeneration, salvation, and immortality constitute the Bible's message to suffering humanity.

Monotheism, the recognition and worship of one God, is an overriding biblical theme. The Israelites' search for the Promised Land and the revelation of the moral law through the Ten Commandments illustrate the responsibilities that come from spiritual discipline. The inspired foresight of the prophets and their articulation of God's law, the anticipation of the Messiah, the ministry of Christ Jesus, and the preaching of the gospel—all these are the familiar strains that form the central and primary tradition of the Christian Church. Christians are united in their adoption of the Bible as the center of their faith and acknowledge its instruction, revelation, and record of divine law.
