In control

A revelation that appears and reappears throughout the spiritually inspired writings of the Bible is that everything is under God's control. God is in control of His universe. Spiritual man bears witness to His control and reflects it. The Bible poetically expresses it: "Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet." Ps. 8:6;

When headlines shriek of accelerating inflation in many countries—Britain, Argentina, Israel, the United States, to name a few—deteriorating world law in the hostage situations in Iran and Colombia, Soviet aggression in Afghanistan, terrorism in Italy, civil war in Chad, recent turbulence in El Salvador, the mortal scene appears to be in many respects out of control. Mankind is forced to question seriously how it can better exercise man's God-given dominion. Such control does not derive from mortals but expresses the divine Principle, Love.

The Scriptures—and surely our own lives—offer many examples of demonstrating a divine control over human circumstances. In citing two biblical events, Mrs. Eddy provides a key for consistently exercising such control: "Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions' den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless." Science and Health, p. 514;
