Evidence of God

Perhaps some people still feel sure that God is a kind of superbeing way off in heaven—wherever that may be. But many others are coming to see God as divine intelligence, omnipresent Spirit. John adds breadth to our concept of Spirit when he assures us, "God is love." I John 4:16;

You and I might feel certain that God is not a separate entity far away—a grand Potentate that may or may not intervene when we pray for help. But just such a misconception of God is deeply rooted in mankind's consciousness, and in practice we may sometimes let this perception of God color our view of Him. Don't we often use language and analogies that suggest God and man are separate—that God comes to man either through unexpected divine intervention or because man's plea is successful in drawing God's response?

This is not to deny that God does care for us. It's comforting—and to a degree it's helpful—to feel that God defends us from evil; that He can be called on to preserve us in times of temptation; that He tells us which direction to take when we face a decision. But there's a limitation in this concept. It shows the way people often feel about God—not the full relationship man himself actually has with God.
