A copy of the Sentinel was given to me at the close of a public lecture on Christian Science. I was a student in college, and I had gone to the lecture feeling dispirited and dejected because of my recent failure in a biology examination. Finals were coming up, and I was very apprehensive. In this particular issue of the Sentinel there was a testimony from a college student who had faced a similar problem. The testifier explained how she had overcome her fears and completed her final examination successfully.

As I read this I set about spiritualizing my consciousness of God and His reflection, man. This inspiring discipline replaced fear and doubt with confidence and courage. The temptation to believe that I lacked ability was dispelled as I more consistently identified myself as spiritual, the image of divine Mind, God. I began to understand that as the idea of Mind, I express Mind and its infinite intelligence. Gratitude for ever-operative Principle to rely on replaced despair with peaceful assurance.

Thereafter, I noticed a change in the atmosphere of the class itself. The mesmerism of fear lessened, and we all passed the final examination. My teacher even congratulated me on writing such a good paper. I knew my fear had been overcome through a spiritual awakening to my true relationship to God. The divine power behind Christ Jesus' words "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30) and "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works" (John 14:10) had helped me to spiritually discern my rightful inheritance of dominion and freedom as a daughter of God.
